Donna Geddes

Associate Professor Donna Geddes has recently become the Head of the Hartmann Human Lactation Research Group. Donna has a medical imaging background with an emphasis in ultrasound imaging. She has integrated this modality into many of the group’s studies providing a ‘window’ to different physiological processes during lactation. In particular she utilises her ultrasound imaging skills to assess the lactating breast (anatomy, milk ejection and blood flow) as well as the infant (suck-swallow-breathe, gastric emptying and body composition). More recently she has utilised these techniques to study the preterm infant offering more knowledge upon which to build evidence based practice. Donna is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society for Research into Human Milk and Lactation (ISRHML) and the Editorial Board for Breastfeeding Review as well as a Consultant Editor for the Journal of Human Lactation.
